Tŷ Caws

My name's Owen Davies and I own and run Tŷ Caws, which translates as ‘Cheese House’! 

 My mission is to bring the very best of British cheese to Cardiff - working directly with the dedicated farmers and cheesemakers across the UK who make some of the best cheeses in the world!

My journey into the world of cheese started over 18 years ago working for one of the UK’s leading speciality food distributors based in London. I’ve been fortunate to travel the world discovering cheese whilst meeting the most amazing people behind their creations…they all have a great story to tell!. A highlight in my cheese calendar is to judge at the World Cheese Awards – held in a different country each year. We are proud to stock some of the British Winners exclusively in Cardiff, such as Cornish Kern, Bath Blue, Pitchfork Cheddar and Gorwydd Caerphilly.

 Our selection of cheese changes throughout the year to reflect the season, and to ensure we have the absolute best cheese all year round.

 We’ve just received our delivery of Christmas Stilton from THE best Stilton makers – Colston Bassett. Their award-winning Stilton is smooth and creamy with a mellow flavour and features in our Ultimate Christmas Cheese Hamper. We will also launch an exclusive new cheese at the markets in the next few weeks – Cheddar meats Alpine is a clue!

 I love being part of the market – there’s some great banter amongst us traders and it’s wonderful to have a weekly catch up with all the loyal customers who visit the markets, regardless of the weather! You can find us weekly at Rhiwbina, Roath and Riverside.

At Rhiwbina, you will be familiar with seeing Tom Rogers who has joined the team – and shares an equal LOVE for cheese! Tom is an experienced tour manager and sound engineer and joined the Tŷ Caws team following the pandemic this year.

It’s been an interesting time to start a new business this year, but it’s thanks to the loyal support of the customers at Riverside Real Food markets that we’ve been able to grow and develop the business. And we have lots more ideas and cheeses to come!
