Postcardiff

I am a contemporary artist and illustrator based in Cardiff, known for my Art Deco-inspired scenes of Wales. Using acrylic paint on mountboard, I infuse a modern twist into my creations, celebrating Welsh culture through my unique artistic lens.

My journey as a freelance illustrator for a local children's book publisher has allowed me to incorporate many of these images into a variety of products crafted from my home in Splott. From postcards and tote bags to stickers, thermos flasks, and laptop covers, my work showcases the versatility of my work. Drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of Welsh culture—its food, music, and sports—my artwork often features narratives based on personal experiences. Memorable moments such as getting locked in Bute Park as a student, falling in love on Chippy Lane, spotting a mink in Ystradfellte, and losing my chips to a seagull in Tenby add a humorous and nostalgic touch to my pieces.

I have exhibited my work at Llandough Hospital and collaborated on community projects with organizations like Arts for Wellbeing and The Wallich, creating art centered around themes of place and home. My love for Art Deco and Art Nouveau, particularly the works of Edward Hopper, Tamara de Lempicka, and Robert Erté, deeply influences my style. I strive to capture the beauty of Wales in a chic and relatable manner, celebrating the early twentieth century's artistic elegance. From a young age, I have been passionate about painting and drawing, always dreaming of making a living from my artistic skills. By focusing on my personal experiences and stories, I remain authentic and true to myself. Exploring new places, staying current with trends, and immersing myself in the vibrant life of Wales continue to inspire my work. Whether it's attending pop concerts in Cardiff, exploring football team nicknames, or capturing the essence of new adventures, my art reflects my diverse interests. Creating art in my local pub, The 4 Elms, and experimenting with new products bring me immense joy.

There's no greater satisfaction than seeing someone appreciate and purchase something I've made. I take pride in offering unique and distinctive pieces that resonate with people. Among all my creations, my postcards hold a special place in my heart. I love seeing people smile as they turn the postcard carousel, and I believe art should be affordable and accessible. Postcards, with their vintage and nostalgic appeal, perfectly embody the spirit of my work. I cherish being a part of the Cardiff arts and crafts community, where I've built a reputation and made many friends. The feedback that my work is unique and different is what makes me proudest, affirming my dedication to creating art that brings joy to others.
