Planet Card
Do you love the idea of enjoying planet-friendly fruit and vegetables, like organics, but find them a bit too pricey? We totally get it!
Join the movement! Planet Card is part of a nationwide initiative, Bridging the Gap.
What is Planet Card?
Planet Card helps make organic and planet-friendly fruit and vegetables more accessible and affordable by giving you a weekly £11 credit to spend at Cardiff Farmers Markets. This initiative is organised by Cardiff Farmers Markets and Food Cardiff as part of Bridging the Gap.
How does it work?
Every week, through our dedicated Planet Card website, you will receive a credit of £11 that can be spent on fruit and vegetables at the stalls of participating vendors at Cardiff Farmers Markets.
To spend your £11, you just need to provide your unique Membership Number to the trader, which will be assigned to you.
You can spend the £11 at one or more traders.
You will be able to access the website by entering your Membership Number to keep track of your £11. Any unspent amount will NOT roll over to the following week.
You will receive emails from us from time to time to give you any market updates as our fruit and vegetables stallholders may change.
Can I get a card? Anyone living in Cardiff who identifies as experiencing a low income can apply for a card. Please click this link to apply
Please note, as our office is closing soon for the holiday season, we have temporarily closed applications. We will reopen applications after the 13th of January, 2025
You can also email us at planetcard@cardiffffarmersmarkets.org.uk
Where can I use the card?
You can use the card at Roath Market or Riverside Market for fruit and veg at Paul’s Organic Veg, Coed Organic, and Slad Valley Mushrooms.
What do I need to commit to the initiative?
Your willingness to try the Planet Card at one or more of the Cardiff Farmers Markets and provide feedback on your experience over the course of six months.
You don't have to commit to attending every week, but we expect participants to use the card regularly throughout the trial.
From time to time, you will be asked to give feedback through focus groups, surveys or interviews. We’re using evidence from the pilots to advocate for urgent national and local level policy change.
What is Bridging the Gap?
Bridging the Gap is a nationwide initiative demonstrating ways to enable people who struggle to access organic or planet-friendly fruit and vegetables to afford them. By planet-friendly, we mean fruit and vegetables that are grown in a way that does not harm the environment, in other words methods that do not use harmful chemicals such as pesticides. Currently, food that is good for people and the planet is often more expensive than food that is bad for health and produced in ways that damage the planet. We're exploring new ideas in communities across Wales, Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland to show how we can make a difference both locally and nationally. We’re using evidence from the pilots to advocate for urgent national and local policy change.
Join us and be a part of the change for a healthier planet and community!
